The demand for autism service dogs is high and availability is sometimes limited. The process for obtaining a dog from Pawsitive Service Dog Solutions is simple and straightforward.
The first step is to submit an application along with a $25 non-refundable application fee. The application is available online (or by contacting PSDS via email.) After we process the application, which may take a week or two, references are verified and the application is either approved or denied. A phone or in person interview is conducted to determine if PSDS is able to meet the needs of the individual and family and to ensure that the placement would be appropriate.
The family is then partnered with our Director of Fund Raising who will guide and coach them step-by-step through the fundraising and community awareness process. The fee for an Autism Service Dog is $8,000 which is typically met through donations, fund raising, and various other creative avenues.
When the funds have been raised, an appropriate dog is selected and placed into advanced training. The service dog is then trained for the specific tasks needed for the individual with Autism. When the training is completed, the team/family will need to travel to Northern California to work with the advanced trainer and the dog for about five days. Occasionally, our dog and trainer may be able to come to the family when necessary.
Please print out the application below, fill it in and either scan, mail, fax, or email it back to us.
